IIMP Webinar Will Address Geotechnical Design in Open-Pit Mine Slope Stability
In the mining industry, slope stability is crucial for achieving sustainable, safe, and efficient projects.
Lima, August 5, 2025. The theme of the Decentralized Mining Thursday event, organized by the Arequipa Branch of the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers (IIMP), will be “Estimation of Geotechnical Design Parameters in Open-Pit Mine Slope Stability.” The event will take place within the framework of Slope Stability 2026, one of the world's most significant mining slope events, which will be held in Peru for the first time in 2026.
Slope Stability 2026 is organized by the Large Open Pit Project (LOP) and supported in Peru by the Peruvian Society of Geoengineering and the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers (IIMP).
The webinar
Raúl Pozo, senior consultant in the geomechanics area of SRK Consulting Peru, will give the presentation. He leads open-pit mining projects in Mexico and Peru. The event moderation will be handled by Miguel Gómez, coordinator of the Arequipa Section of the IIMP.
Pozo is a registered civil engineer with 17 years of professional experience in the civil and mining field, graduated from the Universidad Nacional de Ingeniería (UNI), with a Master of Science with a mention in Geotechnical Engineering from the same university, and a master’s degree in Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering from CEDEX (Madrid – Spain).
Likewise, as a researcher, he is part of the Peruvian National Register of Science and Technology (RENACYT), participating as a speaker in events held in Peru, Brazil, Chile, and Spain, and is internationally recognized as an APEC engineer.
As an individual member, he is a member of the International Society of Rock Mechanics (ISRM), the Peruvian Society of Geoengineering (SPEG), and the Spanish Society of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (SEMSIG).
Decentralized Mining Thursday
The IIMP, through these keynote conferences, seeks to put fundamental issues on the agenda, involving authorities and specialists from various fields at the national level in dialogue and debate.
The conference will be held on Thursday, August 7, at 5:00 p.m., through our official YouTube, LinkedIn, and Facebook accounts. To watch it through the Zoom platform, you can register at: https://bit.ly/40Ry8n6.
