Slope Stability 2026 Will Bring Together Experts From 7 Countries in International Keynote Conferences
The event on slope stability will bring together young students, geotechnical engineers, researchers, educators, scientists, and other professionals from the global mining industry.

Lima, July 22, 2025. The Organizing Committee of the International Symposium on Slope Stability 2026 has reported that the event will feature keynote talks by geotechnical experts from the international mining industry, representing seven countries.
Slope Stability 2026, one of the most important mining slope events in the world, organized by the Large Open Pit Project (LOP) and supported in Peru by the Peruvian Society of Geoengineering and the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers (IIMP).
Keynote Speakers
On Monday, October 26, 2026, Dr. Loren Lorig, Principal Consultant at Itasca, will deliver a keynote address at 8:00 a.m. Lorig is a geological engineer from the University of Minnesota (USA).
At 2 p.m., Carlos R. Scherpenisse, Chief Technical Officer and Director of GeoBlast, will give a presentation. Scherpenisse is an electrical civil engineer and holds a degree in Engineering Sciences from the Universidad de Santiago de Chile.
On Tuesday, October 27, at 8:00 a.m., there will be a presentation by Geoff Beale, principal at Piteau Associates Engineering. Beale is a graduate of Lancaster University (UK).
Later in the day, Carmen Perez, Global Practice Lead Hydrogeology at Lundin Mining Corporation, will give her keynote at 3 p.m. Pérez is a geologist from the University of Huelva (Spain).
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, at 8 a.m., Dr. Teófilo Aquino Vieira da Costa, a geology and geotechnical engineer at Vale, will give his keynote speech. Vieira is a geologist from the Federal University of Ouro Preto.
In the afternoon, at 2 p.m., Dr. Antonio Samaniego, Chairman of the Board at SRK Consulting, will chair a keynote session. Samaniego is a civil engineer from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP) and a mining engineer from University College Cardiff in the United Kingdom.
On Thursday, October 29, 2026, at 8:00 a.m., there will be a keynote speech by Mark Hawley, CEO and Geotechnical Chief Advisor at Piteau Associates. Hawley is a geological engineer from the University of British Columbia (Canada).
